2. Reflections
I chose this article because it reminds me of the struggle of women to achieve equality through advocacy and feminist writings. In ‘Is gender equality ruining your sex life?’ Ford argues that anti-feminists continue to suppress women’s rights through distortion of gains made in the liberation of females (Ford, 2014). The article is also a manifestation of our society concerning the domination of male and the neglect of women.
However, from the sociology text book chapter, the article reflects the setbacks that afflict gender in terms of sexuality. According to sociologists, gender is a sensitive issue in society because of conventional norms that have assigned roles to both males and females. Therefore, anti-feminists easily find a platform of disparaging women liberators.
It means under the sociological theory of feminism, the article wishes to establish and defend equally socio-cultural and political rights for women. Ford highlights the pitfalls of gender inequality and the ramifications it has on women’s social life (Ford, 2014). She also explores the perpetuation of this inequality through consequential social conflicts such as the belittling women in egalitarian marriages.
This article affects the rest of by displaying the threat women face in most contemporary societies where men are averse to feminism. It also exposes the challenge of alleviating females from the feeling of inferiority because of anti-feminist campaigns waged by males in their societies.
