Evaluating Client Profile 2 Evaluating Aaron’s Profile Using the Cognitive Approach The Beginning of Therapeutic Process To begin the process of therapy, the therapist will first identify Aaron’s family and education history. The therapist will be required know what motivates Aaron to receive therapy, as this will reflect on the client’s progress.
Goal of Therapy
The therapist will assist Aaron in developing a way of integrating a healthy and rational way of exercising and eating. These will be integrated into Aaron’s thinking using cognitive tools. The process of therapy has to be a joint effort between the therapist and a client (Dobson, 2010). Aaron will realize that the therapist is there to help him regain his athletic and health abilities.
Strategies and Method Used in Therapy
Therapy takes place for the client to gain insight of his or her attitudes and what may be required from them (Dobson, 2010). An excellent example of how this will take place, will involve the therapist helping Aaron to realign his thoughts, in regard to weight and health. Instead of Aaron thinking of how to lose weight, he can focus on training.
Strengths and Limitations
The advantage is that Aaron will have the cognitive skills at the end of the session which will assist him in challenging any irrational beliefs that will lead to future problems. The limitations of using the cognitive approach is that, Aaron may exhibit some negative feelings during the session. These may be the negative feelings that Aaron may have felt towards one of his parents.
Cultural/Gender/Age issues
What will be considered in Aaron’s case is his cultural aspect, religion and beliefs as he was growing up. At Aaron’s age, a teenager, the therapist will have to ensure that Aaron’s training and healing process is in line with his cultural background, age and gender.
Ethical or legal issues
The therapist has to involve the parents, as Aaron is still a minor. The parental involvement is crucial in determining how Aaron progresses in future. In conclusion, the overall goal of this therapy is to assist a client like Aaron to identify and establish valid ways of thinking.
