Adolescent Pregnancy Is Viewed As A High-risk Situation Due To The Serious Health Risks That This – Coursework Example

Adolescent pregnancy Adolescent pregnancy usually occurs when an adolescent conceives a baby at a tender age, usually when she is still under the care of the parents. At this age, the pregnancy comes with a lot of challenges and risk factors, both to the girl and the community as a whole. First of all, an expectant adolescent usually faces stigma from the community. She may be isolated and discriminated against by the peers. In most cases, even the parents do not understand her. The parents may react with violence and with minimal or no understanding at all. The parents may also disagree due to the very pregnancy; one parent may sympathize with the daughter while the other does not. The pregnant girl also risks dropping out of school. This means she may not achieve her professional dreams. Abortion is another risk factor that comes with adolescent pregnancy. Having gone through stigma and domestic conflicts, many adolescent opt for abortion. The process is life threatening and may lead to the death of the girl, other than killing the innocent baby. The Adolescent Pregnancy Campaign of North Carolina (APCNC) is a state resource that works alongside the Center for Disease Control (CDC) in curbing adolescent pregnancy. This organization educates the adolescent girls and their parents on avoidance of such pregnancy. It also connects the expectant girls to clinic services. For the last ten years, adolescent has considerably reduced due to the education offered by resources such as APCNC. The awareness on the use of contraceptives such as condoms has also been well created among the youth.
