Process Intervention Skills How process interventions are used in an OD program According to Brown , "Process interventions are an OD skill used by OD practitioners, whether managers or OD professionals, to help work groups become more effective" (p. 199). The rationale of process interventions include assisting teams to be more responsive to their functions and collaboration. This responsiveness in turn assists teams to widen their analytical skills geared towards problem resolutions. In organizational development, process intervention therefore equips team players with skills to respond and be more sentient of their practices and in so doing enhance their abilities to resolve problems (Brown, 2011).
The difference between group task functions and group maintenance functions
Group task behaviors according to Brown (2011) consist of performances and manners of conduct of all members of the team that assist the team players decipher their duties. These performances and conducts as stipulated by Brown (2011) comprise of instigation and proposition of the purpose or objective of the team as well as the methods and techniques employed by the team to achieve the their purpose. Conversely, group maintenance functions consist of performances and conducts geared towards growth and development of the team in terms of advancement of connections and affiliations between team members (Brown, 2011). Conducts associated with synchronization and cooperation of team members are also examples of group maintenance functions as they help minimize variance among team members.
The communication process that a manager can use in a work group
There are a number of processes that managers can use to communicate in a work group. These processes commence with scrutinizing communication among the team members through observations aimed at identifying the length of communication of each team player, the best listeners in the team, and the team members interrupting others during communication (Brown, 2011). This gives the manager a better understanding of what needs to be communicated. Based on the observations, the manager can either give responses to the team members during the convention or at the end of the convention. Giving a response is important as it helps the team members comprehend their conduct and performances. Other than giving responses, managers can also amalgamate opinions presented by the group members and connect them to the entire team, and consequently clarify from the team members. Encouraging team members to ask questions and giving responses is also a method managers can use to communicate in a workgroup (Brown, 2011).
