Create A Personal Storage And Retention Policy – Coursework Example

Personal Data Storage and Retention Policy Lecturer All the files that I accumulate should be reviewed after every one month in order to identify the outdated ones for purging. This period is long enough to render several files outdated. For instance, there are many files that I create for a short-term purpose such as job application or even for communication purpose with my friends. Such files become outdated soon after the message has been passed. Therefore, the period of one month will be ideal for reviewing them and purging the outdated ones to free disk space.
According to Blake (2012), the important files should not be stored in the same location with other less crucial files. They should be stored in a separate partition in order to allow the user to locate them easily and handle them carefully. My computer storage should have three partitions whereby the other two partitions besides Local Disk C would be used for storage of my files. The second partition should be labeled “Important Files” and be used for storage of the crucial files.
The important files accumulated should be reviewed after every three months in order to identify the outdated ones for purging. According to Mee and Daniel (2009), even the important files get outdated hence making their storage unnecessary. For instance, some of my important files include billing invoices and bank slips that in most cases I scan and store them in my computer. Most of them, especially the billing invoices, become outdated within periods of less than three months after the requested services have been rendered. Therefore, reviewing all my important files after every three months would allow effective management of my disk space and stored files.
