Business Crisis College: Business Crisis Power distance is a measure that shows that all individuals are not equal in the society. From the scale, both Canada and Mexico have a certain range of power distance whereby Canada lies at 39 while Mexico lies at 80. This shows that there is no close relationship between people of different classes (Hofstede, 2015). In Canada, organizational leaders consult their juniors and do not look down upon them. On the hand, in Mexican organizations, there are stretched inequalities between the manager and the subordinates whereby the bosses are autocratic in managing the businesses.
Uncertainty avoidance has to do with the way a society deals with the unknown nature of the future. Both Canada and Mexico are anxious about the future and thus are prepared differently in dealing with it (Hofstede, 2015). From the scale, Canada lies at 48 while Mexico is at 82. This explains that Canadians are ready to accept new ideas and ready to change with any trend unlike Mexicans who seem rigid. It also explains that Canadian culture allows freedom of expression and is not rule oriented and that is why its score is far below the Mexicans. Mexican leaders are afraid of new trends in the business environment.
Individualism is the level of interdependence maintained by members of a given society. It deals with people’s self image whether it is “I” or “We”. From the scale, Canada score is 80 while Mexico lies at 30. This shows that the Canadian culture is individualistic while Mexican is collective. Besides, Canadian organizations expect employees to be self reliant (Hofstede, 2015). On the other hand, in Mexico the collective society accounts for hiring as well as promotion of groups in an organization.
Masculinity-feminist deals with issues that motivate people in a society, whether they want to be the best or they like what they do. Higher score means that the society is competition, success as well as achievement driven. On the other hand, a low score indicates that the society values caring for one another and for their neighbors life quality hence feminine in nature. Canada has a score of 52 meaning it is moderately masculine (Hofstede, 2015). Therefore, Canadians balance between work and personal pursuits. On the other hand, Mexico lies at 69 meaning the society is completely masculine. Organization managers in Mexico are likely to emphasize more on competition and performance than in Canada.
