Leadership affiliation Leadership Task Followership is the reaction of individuals in minor positions to those in the high-ranking ones. It is a social affiliation amongst the group, followers, and the leader. It is not passive or subservience compliance to orders. Instead, it is the process whereby the followers involve themselves in beneficially critical thinking, and communicate with and support the leaders to assist them accomplish a mission. Followership is the mutual societal process of leadership. Good followers are accountable for their actions, and they may mould and influence the views of the leader. In the present days, with the shared authority, there is a demand for people who are creative, flexible, and capable of empowering others to be creative and flexible. With the shortage of nurses, fewer resources, higher patient acuity, outside influences, and highly diverse demographic, nurses must be more operational leaders than before as they manage patients in numerous sceneries. Additionally, they must know who to follow, how to follow, when to follow and how to use the role of the follower more effectively. There can never be an operational leader without operational followers, and so the two are connected. Therefore, this two aspects should be integrated together to allow people to be part and contribute to the achievement of organizational goals (Haslam & Platow, 2001).
Additionally, leadership and responsibility are one thing as leadership is responsibility. Rotating leadership and responsibility give each person in an organization the responsibilities and rights of tasks, leadership, and decision-making. It unlocks the door for associates to step back from leadership as required, being aware that other individuals in the company or group are capable of carrying out this duty while they give themselves some time off duty. Concisely, from this we can say that leadership, responsibility and followership are all necessary and are all connected with effective leadership cannot be achieved without them (Chinn, 2008).
