Leadership Change Affiliation Leadership Change Leadership is the act of giving guidance to an organization or people in a group. There has been a shift in leadership attributes in the past century from the industrial age to the information age. There is rapid change in several sectors such as education with both teachers forced to embrace technology for fast service delivery (Hughes, Ginnett & Curphy, 2012). However, the shift from industrial to the information has been hindered by several situations. This paper discusses the situations that affecting a shift from industrial to information age affect organizations.
The world hates change and, therefore, the proposed shift from industrial to the information age has been met with a lot of resistance. In corporations, this change has been viewed as a threat to the culture of organizations (Hughes, Ginnett & Curphy, 2012). A slight change in employee’s rituals and symbols at the work environment results to confusion and insecurity. The struggle to please the authority and others without regard to personal needs is rife in our organization that has resulted to conflicts among employees.
The information age presents diversity and potential for personal growth that has been hindered by an industrial leadership that believes in perfectionism and black and white thinking (Hughes, Ginnett & Curphy, 2012). Therefore, employees who have embraced a full information age are viewed as radicals and indiscipline in an organization. In the information age, mistakes are viewed as a necessary component for growth while the industrial leadership believes in perfection and does not allow room for mistakes.
My leadership approach would aim to embrace informational age by creating avenues in an organization where employees are frequently trained on current trends in information technology. I believe this will reduce conflicts between the old and the new guard as they both knows the benefits of the information age.
