Reduction in Correction Workforce Insert Insert The current times we live in dictates that it is of great importance for organizations should cut on costs and expenses as much as possible while increasing or maintain productivity. A contemporary correctional facility requires a lot in terms of the number of workforces, this is because to keep a correctional facility running smoothly without instances of chaos from inmates you will require a substantial number of workforce to keep everything in place.
One will need an even bigger number of the workforce if the facility lacks sufficient surveillance parameters. However, the future we are going into means that we will need to rely more on technology to assist the smaller workforce (Kammeyer-Mueller & Liao, 2006). We will also need invest more in order to induce guidance to inmates so that they develop a positive attitude to their situations.
Advantages related to cutting down on workforce
i.) It allows the prison department to cut down on costs. This creates a direct reaction in that the extra amount that should have been paid off as salaries to the now made redundant workers will now be available for other purposes. A case where two offices man a given center yet it could be performed by a single individual.
ii.) It also creates indirect labor mobility in that it forces the remaining workforce to keep abreast with the latest technology and skills (Camardella, 2002).
Disadvantages related to cutting down on workforce
i.) Downsizing may lead to loss of skilled personnel if done shadily. The correctional facility may lose warders who were good at relating with their clients. A case in point is the emotional reprieve from a colleague based on cutting down of workforce, they decide to abandon the job.
ii.) It may cause the now made redundant workers to feel like victims of injustice and increase the possibility of the facility facing wrongful termination cases.
iii.) It also causes the disruption of interpersonal relationships (Camardella, 2002).
