Recognizing and Avoiding Bias College Affiliation: Recognizing and Avoiding Bias Ethical issues always arise when conducting any sought of research. One may have a dislike for Africans based on rumors in the general public concerning their behavior or a specific religion based on the things that may go against ones belief, although, accepted in that religion. However, research, as defined in the Webster dictionary is the collection of information about a specific target or subject (Raine, 2002). Research is also defined as a systematic search of truth or even facts concerning a subject.
There are various ethical edifices that govern a research. Some include factors that all the more make research resentful such as asking for monetary returns while others involve personal bias by the research (Raine, 2002). In situations having someone who has utterly different beliefs to those of the interviews, such as the case involving the researcher in the case study and the Middle East people he is supposed to research. The case goes beyond the normal ethical issues such as compliance, confidentiality, voluntary participation and voluntary procedures, risks, purpose of research, as well as, statements of risks.
The researcher’s bias over people practicing Islam and especially those from the Middle East has a very strong basis. However, the primary objective especially that enshrined in the definition must come into play when one wants to conduct a good research. The main understanding is that in the Middle East, just a few people are normally in the support of the bombers. That knowledge on itself must inform a researcher that by assuming that what he beliefs should be a part of the enshrines of research is wrong and selfish. What people seek in a research is facts, and not opinion.
Concisely, one must at all times know what makes him biased such that they do not go for their ‘beliefs’ terming it factual (Morse, 2005). Collection of facts and ensuring that, at all times one is unbiased is what matters most in a research. After recognition of ones biases, one becomes able to tackle them and frame relevant questions.
