Effective Leadership Introduction Leadership is the supremacy to stimulate people by words, actions and deeds using vision, faith and honesty (Northouse, 2009). Effective leadership involves fairly inspiring others to follow ethical guidelines which should consist of both bureaucratic (procedural) and substantive (character-based) aspects. If the leadership is thriving, capable and bright, then the outcome is more prolific than anticipated. The accomplishment of an organization depends mainly on value-based actions and decisions. However, negative leadership has a myriad of adverse impacts upon the organization, the staff, and productivity. There are poor financial results and reduced goal accomplishment due to lack of vision and commitment. Negative leaders lack the quality of transformational leadership which makes others follow the way the leaders work and behave in the organization (Brown & Travino, 2006). Negative leadership affects synergy in the workplace, as negative leaders take no steps in promoting collaboration among employees and departments. Hence, there is lack of communication which gives rise to increased conflicts and misunderstandings among employees. The overall morale of the employees lowers since job satisfaction decreases due to uncertainty that prevails in the workplace environment. Negative leaders over-criticize their employees, and do not believe in employee development. This discourages the employees from performing well. Negative leaders do not empower employees, which decreases job persistence. They also do not motivate employees through feedback and incentives, and hence, the overall workplace environment becomes stressful. Therefore, negative leadership has adverse impact upon the organization, and results in decreased productivity, low employee morale, and increased conflicts in the workplace.
