TOPIC: Describe some of the concerns about examining aircraft instruments. These are instruments in the cockpit of an aircraft that provides the information such as speed and altitude to the pilot. They are particularly used when there is poor visibility, and thus such information is not available from outside. (Nagabhushana, 16). The following article will thus list and describe some of the concerns about examining aircraft instruments and switch settings on a mishap aircraft.
The magnetic camp is used to give directions in relation to the true north. If not properly viewed, it can give conflicting directions due to its varied inclinations at different times. It may thus be necessary to correct its direction based on the flights position.
Pallet wrote that the heading indicator displays the aircraft’s heading with respect to the true north. It from time to time arouses concern due to drift errors. It must thus be periodically corrected by calibrating it with respect to the magnetic north.
The altimeter is used to display the plane’s altitude. It must however be corrected to the local air pressure at the airport. It is adjusted to show the altitude of the plane both on the runway and on air with pilots always keeping the run way elevation in mind.
The airspeed indicator is used to measure the speed of the airspace in relation to the surrounding air. It also raises concern since it must be corrected for the true speed of the aircraft to be measured. This is because of the varying altitudes, temperatures and also the strength of the wind blowing. The attitude indicator shows the aircrafts position in relation to the horizon. It is the primary instrument and thus can be used in times of poor visibility. It however at times fail and for that reason pilots have been trained to use it in combination with other instruments.
In conclusion, it is prudent to note that aircraft instruments are not maximally efficient. Their inability to function properly raises great concerns as has been discussed above.
