Self-reflection on Communication in Nursing Affiliation: Evaluation and assessment of personal character, conduct and traits in different environment placements enhances individual understanding of his or her personal life and that of people the individual interacts with. In nursing, social relations within and without the nursing practice are fundamental to account for. Dealing with patients requires proper conduct and duty performance in a bid to meet patient needs. In this regard, understanding oneself is vital. Nursing Expertise Self-Report Scale aids personal understanding of nurses, especially in their line of study (Allen & Vitale-Nolen, 2005). Using the scale, it is possible to understand the environment nurses work in, highlighting one’s strengths and weaknesses and proper patient-nurse relationship.
The results obtained from Nursing Expertise Self-Report Scale enhanced understanding of my personality, character and conduct in my place of work. All questions answered in one way or another touched on every aspect of nursing practice (Allen & Vitale-Nolen, 2005). With that, it was possible for me to identify my strongholds in my duties, as well as the practice aspects that need to be improved. The Scale’s information suits communication improvement between nurses and patients. In order to effectively communicate and relate with patients, identifying the role of communication in caregiving is essential. The information derived from the Nursing Expertise Self-Report Scale made me realize that communication in nursing practice is two-sided. Both patients and nurses need to engage in frequent communication, while the underlying relations are maintained to the required levels. Understanding my personality through the scale report brings out communication in health care settings as distinct over informal social relations. Therefore, I can better handle my patients.
