Women and HIV HIV remains an epidemic, which continues to pose threat to the health and wellbeing of the human race. Even though the CDC reports that “the number of annual new HIV infections has fallen by more than two-thirds since the height of the epidemic”, it is still important to be paying attention to new strategies that aim at bringing the number further down till a zero rate is achieved (Weiss et al, 2010, p. 32). To do this, a lot of education needs to be done. The educational strategies also need to be far reaching and easily accessible. For this reason, some of the educational materials used at the doctor’s office for ensuring this have been made to include pamphlets and flyers. The pamphlets are generally a collection of notes on the HIV disease, as well as ways of ensuring prevention and control. The rational for using pamphlets is to offer patients and visitors the opportunity to be reading while waiting in the doctor’s office. The flyers are small pieces of papers with enough information on HIV. They could either be read whiles at the office and left on the table or carried away and redistributed to other people to also learn about the virus. Clinics also use coloring books, which contain pictures and images that depict lessons on the virus. The rational for using the coloring book is to promote best practices in pictorial diagrams. Brochures are also used to allow patients to read for valid information whiles waiting. At the exam room, posters and pamphlets are used. The posters contain images that give direct education on safe se practices (Redman, 2007). The rational therefore is to promote safe sex on a readily learning basis.
